A Journey Through History
The Caucasian Shepherd is one of the oldest dog breeds in the world. Its roots go back some 3,000 years in the land of the the Caucus Mountains, Georgia. These dogs have been used by the Georgians for centuries to defend and protect their flocks, herds, and property. They were so well known for their faithful service that they were taken up by the Russians and put into service of many kinds: military, government guard duty at various stations, property protection, etc. The breed became a favorite of the Russians, who have now been breeding the dog for more than 140 years. The Georgian people still consider the dog to be theirs. It is a part of the heritage of their people, their shepherd culture. Please watch this fantastic video of the Caucasian in its native land of Georgia, as it gives us a glimpse of the traditional life of the breed. This first video is a short film showing the breed at work. https://youtu.be/yOh7SayDzhE This second video is the complete documentary with more detail of the breed history and use. youtu.be/IyPQHDZ_6HU
Thea and Jed have had great pups. Farm-raised Caucasians.
This slideshow focuses on two of our Caucasians: Jed and Thea. Jed is an FCI/RKF registered CO imported from Russia. Thea is an unregistered female that we rescued. We have chosen to breed her because her instincts as a guardian are so strong. She is our lead LGD on the farm. Both dogs have done well with our sheep.
